October 27, 2000, presidential candidate and Texas Governor George W.
Bush paid a visit to Michiana Regional Airport in South Bend to bring
his message to Indiana voters and to support local congressional candidate
Chris Chocola and gubernatorial candidate David Macintosh.
Carol Dooley, Mishawaka Mayor Robert Beutter, and many others were on hand to welcome Governor Bush to Michiana. For many area residents, this was a once in a lifetime chance to see a presidential candidate, hear him speak in person, and, for a lucky few, even shake his hand.
